Championship Cook-Off

The Championship Cook-Off sponsored by the San Angelo Restaurant Association started in 2010 in efforts to raise money for the scholarship fund and encourage participation in events held during the Stock Show and Rodeo. The event is held on the North end of the 1st Community Federal Credit Union Spur Arena.

Participation is open to any four-person team, which one person must be indicated as the Head or Chief Cook. Each team will submit only one entry in the required Beef Brisket division. There are also optional categories which one entry may be submitted including Pork Spare Ribs and Chicken as well as a specialty category, Jalapeno Poppers, for the title of "San Angelo King Popper" though these do not count in point totals. The Popper division was started in 2012, since poppers are a West Texas delicacy! Awards will be presented to the four-person team that wins each division. Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion will be awarded belt buckles & sponsors will receive recognition. A point system will be used to determine Grand and Reserve Grand Champions.

Spectators are invited to visit the cook-off area and sample a variety of offerings provided by the cook off committee.

The entry fee is $400 per team. All checks must be payable to San Angelo Stock Show & Rodeo Association. Applications accepted by mail at 200 West 43rd St., San Angelo, TX 76903 or via e-mail to brenda@sanangelorodeo.com. You may either mail a check or after e-mailing forms, please call 325-653-7785 to pay with a card by phone. A 3% convenience fee is added to all card transactions. You may also go by Schneider Distributing located at 1 S. Abe St in San Angelo TX to register and pay in person.

CHANGES

No meat or peppers will be provided.

Personal ATV'S no longer allowed. We will have 2 ATV'S available on site for participants to use during the event.

Showmanship has been added and will be judged throughout the day. Winner will be announced during the awards and will receive free entry to the 2026 Championship cook-off.
